Ruby M. Baker was born in St. Charles, VA (Lee County) and lived in a holler on the side of the mountain where she was married to Henry Burkhart and started raising her sons, before moving to Indianapolis in 1963. She was a stay at home mom most of her life, but she worked at Washington High School in the cafeteria while her children were in high school. After her first husband died in 1982, she met James Page at church and they were married in 1995. She then lived in New Palestine, IN, and Garden City, SC, before moving to Beech Grove, IN and then back to Indianapolis, IN. The last two years she lived in Greenwood, IN.
Ruby was preceded in death by her parents Jesse and Nannie Baker of St. Charles, VA; husbands Henry Burkhart and James Page, and sons Jessie, Jimmie, and Richard.
Ruby is survived by her son Ronnie Burkhart (Debbie) of Sharpsburg, GA, her grandchildren Eddie, Jimmie, Johnny, Jeffrey, Roderick, Stacy, Ronnie, Telina (Capshaw), Rebekah, Daniel, and her ten great grandchildren. She is also survived by her daughters-in-law Laura Burkhart, Sue Burkhart, and Phyllis Burkhart.
She was an active member of Fellowship of Christ Baptist Church in Beech Grove, IN.
Services are 1 pm Wednesday, November 20, 2019 at the Usher Funeral Home. Burial will follow in Floral Park Cemetery. Friends may call on the family from 11:30 am until the time of service on Wednesday.
