Jose “Big Joe” Angel Montez, 62 of Indianapolis passed away Sunday, June 11 2023, He was born on Sunday, February 5 1961 to Macario M and Maria M. (Morales) Montez in San Juan, Texas.
He was preceded in death by his father Macario M. Montez.
He is survived by his son Joe Montez, daughters Melissa (Montez) Freeman, Angel Montez, mother Maria M. (Morales) Montez, 6 grandchildren, and 2 great grandchildren, 5 sisters, 2 brothers, extended family, and friends.
Jose was known to some as Joe, Big Joe, Shadow and Chato. He worked for Overnight and Conway as truck driver for 30+years. Joe loved spending time with his kids and family. He was always there for his mother and children no matter what. Joe dedicated his last several years to his mother who he loved dearly by helping care for her. Joe would always think of others first he was a loving, selfless, compassionate funny guy. He could make you forget about your problems and worries by his hugs, talks and his jokes. He could make the whole room laugh by all the silly, goofy things he would do.
One of his funniest traits was, he would like to act like a baby, and sometimes when he went into the stores, he would act like a kid that was lost, and looking for his mommy. He was a big storyteller he could make up some stories and keep them going for the longest each time he told his story to someone he would add more and more details and get more in-depth with it. He once said he was mostly Indian and that he was part of an Indian tribe where they called him Shadow the Great Chief and Warrior and that is where we also got our red tint in our skin from being mostly Indian. I believe most people still believe this story.
Another story he told was that he was shipped over here on a tomato truck and they ate all the tomatoes up on the way. Joe loved to go fishing, camping, casinos, and he got a lot of joy just being outside he was really big on planting flowers, plants and making a garden and just taking care of them. He enjoyed making his yard look beautiful he was always proud of his yard and the work he put into it. Joe got a lot of joy just playing the PlayStation with his son. He like watching football, basketball, and the race as well as movies while eating a box of Popsicles and a bag of popcorn. He was just overall great father, son, grandpa, brother, uncle, and great friend.
He is missed by all who knew and loved him.
