John Lee Hamelman

John Lee Hamelman, 81, of Delphi, passed away on Saturday, November 4, 2023 at 3:15 a.m. at his home. He was born on Wednesday, August 26, 1942 in Templeton, Indiana to Harry and Ruby (Yarno) Hamelman. His marriage to Dina Hamelman was on July 14, 1984 and she survives. He was a 1960 Kentland High School graduate. He retired from management at A.O. Smith. John enjoyed fishing, mushroom hunting, bird watching, taking long car rides to see wildlife, visiting family and friends, and playing the lottery.

He was preceded in death by his parents Harry and Ruby Hamelman; Siblings-Harry Hamelman, Evelyn, Grace Martin, Patricia Kinkade, and Veronica Senesac; stepson Jeremy Hayden; and his long-lost buddy Charlie Green.

Surviving are his loving wife: Dina Hamelman; Children-Shell Yates (Rick), Lori Snodgrass (Dave), and Cassandra Freeland (Gary Turner); sister, Cignora Lee (Rex); daughter-in-law Liza Hayden;
Grandchildren-Ricky Yates (Tamara), Dylan Yates (Megan); Justin Gick (Michelle); Lindsay Snodgrass, Gary Lockwood, Devon Freeland (Logan), Ashley Musser (Cody); and Axis Hayden; Great-grandchildren-Owen Gick; Olivia Gick; Collin Yates, Addison Yates, Lehnen Yates, Lively Yates, Crue Yates, Nora Yates, Emma Yates, and Katie; extended family and friends.

Please join and celebrate John’s life on November 12th at 10:30 at John and Dina’s home at 11610 W 550 N. In lieu of flowers to help cover John’s arrangements and to help Dina get back on her feet, we are asking for monetary donations in Dina Hamelman’s name. She has been unable to work for several months because she has been John’s caregiver. Thank you for your support.
