Catherine Araujo Obituary

Catherine Araujo age 94, passed away peacefully in her sleep at her home in Indianapolis, Indiana on March 2, 2024.

Catherine was born in Russell County Virginia to Elsie White Glenn and Ruby Jesse (Tate) Glenn on September 22,1929. She was predeceased by her loving husband of 54 years, Ovidio E. (Henry) Araujo, her beloved sons, John Robert Goodlet, Jr., and Roger Allen Goodlet.  Also, her parents, three brothers, and two sisters. Catherine is survived by her cherished daughter and devoted caregiver, Cynthia C. Goodlet (Ralph W. Jarrett): brother Robert White Glenn and sister, Virginia Pauline (Glenn) Oney. She leaves behind 5 grandchildren; Heather, Prudence Elizabeth, Zachary, and AbIgail, and Laura as well as 10 grandchildren and 9 great, great grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews with whom she was very close.

When Catherine moved to Indianapolis  at the age of 17, her first job was at Methodist Hospital. There she forged her first and lifelong friendship with Nellie Jean Fryman. The family would like to acknowledge the many, many years of special friendships she shared with Mary Beth Kunkle Dyar, Kathy Phillips Kunkle, and Maria Zigmunt

An industrious and hardworking individual, a few short years later she opened, owned, and operated Cathy’s Beauty Salon. In 1987 she passed the exam and was awarded a license to practice as a Master Cosmetologist. This enabled her to continue to provide all levels of services to a community of women who were longtime customers as well as friends. She operated out of a one-customer salon in the new house she and Henry purchased further west in the city.

Catherine never embraced retirement. In addition to her many years as a beautician she worked several years for Delta Airlines at the “old” airport as she always referred to it. She was hired by Ticketmaster and in those early years worked mainly in the booth located in L.S. Ayres at Lafayette Square.  When they moved into the RCA Dome she was invited to work there.

A downtown celebration was held marking the transition between the old events arena and the new facility, Lucas Oil Stadium, into which Ticketmaster had moved.   During this ceremony
Mayor William Hudnut spoke. Catherine, along with her co-workers, were recognized as the only 3 employees to have opened this ticket business in both domes. They were honored with commemorative gifts. In her later years, when Ticketmaster was busy for particularly high sales events, she was called into “man the phone.” She was proud to let people know she worked until she was 87 years old.

Although she experienced many adversities throughout her long life, she chose not to share those burdens with others excepting very few and close family members. Catherine was a real lover of life, approaching it with true zest and zeal.

Devoted to family and friends, they were the core of her heart. Catherine was a friend to all and embodied the person who never met a stranger. Her warm spirit drew people to her. She was a loyal friend who stuck by others through “thick and thin.” Known for her generosity she selflessly assisted those in need. Her acts of kindness rippled far beyond her immediate circle.
Catherine’s departure from this life leaves a tremendous void, but her legacy of love and compassion will forever resonate. May her soul find the peace of the eternity in which she truly believed.

A memorial gathering for Catherine will be held from 1pm-4pm Saturday, March 16, 2024 at the Usher Funeral Home. Catherine will be dearly missed by all who knew her, and her memory will forever live on in the hearts of those she touched. May she rest in peace.
