Eileen Marie Cassidy

Eileen Marie Cassidy, OCDS, passed away August 22, 2023 at St. Augustine Home Little Sisters of the Poor in Indianapolis, IN.  She was born in West Springfield, Massachusetts July 15, 1932 to Walter J. and Catherine M. O'Connor Cassidy. The family moved to Holyoke, Massachusetts that year. In 1942 the family moved to Kalamazoo, MI and then in 1948 to Trenton, OH where she graduated from High School in 1949.

Eileen worked for Armco International in Middletown, OH until she moved to New York City in 1951 where she took a position with a management consulting firm until 1957 when she joined the Discalced Carmelite Monastery in Columbus, OH.  Her religious name was Sister Teresa of Jesus.  When that community was closed in 1991, Eileen moved to Indianapolis where she made her profession as a Discalced Carmelite Secular Order.

Eileen was employed for eight years at Marian College in the Development Office

and in 1999 took a position at IUPUI School of Dentistry, retiring in 2008.

A member of St. Monica Parish, she was active in RCIA, Cursillo, Young at Heart, and Contemplative Prayer outreach.  Eileen also served as an Extraordinary Eucharistic Minister at the liturgies and for the sick and shut-ins. She was a Stephen Minister serving in Pastoral Care at St. Vincent Hospital, and a member of Southern Care Hospice, and People First Hospice. She was an active member of LAOH (Ladies Ancient Order of Hibernians).

Eileen is survived by a brother, Dr. Henry Cassidy of Cincinnati, OH, sisters Louise Cassidy Dorenbusch (husband John) of Columbus, IN and Anne DeLaup of Houston, TX, and a sister-in-law Jane Cassidy of Cincinnati, OH.  She was preceded in death by her parents and 2 brothers, Dr. Walter Cassidy of Pacifica, CA., and Thomas Cassidy of Cincinnati, OH.  In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to St. Augustine Home Little Sisters of the Poor, 2345 W. 86th Street   Indianapolis, IN 46260.

Eileen wishes to be remembered as "One of God's friends."

Mass of Christian Burial will be at St. Augustine Home for the Aged, 2345 W 86th St, Indianapolis, IN 46260 at 11:00 AM Thursday, August 31, 2023.  Visitation will precede the Mass from 9:30 AM to Mass time.
